New Buildings – Completed Projects – Commercial – Grand Award
Grand Central

For Sino Land Company Limited and the Urban Renewal Authority, environmental sustainability has been the heart of the Grand Central project since the planning stage, from environmentally friendly construction methods to innovative sustainable design approaches. In consideration of the project’s location in an ageing neighbourhood, the team has strived to bring in environmentally friendly elements and promote a culture of sustainability on an urban scale. The project takes advantage of a highly modular design and a smart building operating system to reduce both carbon emissions and power consumption.

“This is a successful urban renewal project that creates a people-orientated community for a new era in Hong Kong.” The GBA 2021 Jury Panel particularly appreciated Grand Central for successfully rejuvenating an old urban area with thoughtful site planning. This redevelopment project also preserves the area’s local characteristics and retains its street market traditions and strong neighbourhood ties. For instance, Hong Kong’s first air-conditioned hawker bazaar allows vendors from the area’s pre-development shops and hawker markets to continue their businesses in the same locality.

On Tai Estate - The Public Rental Housing Development at Anderson Road Site B

Developed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority, On Tai Estate adopted solar light tubes, a rainwater irrigation system and off-site prefabrication to save energy and reduce waste, successfully transforming the site from a disused quarry to an “Urban Oasis”. The success was also supported by innovative solutions such as 5D BIM, structural soil, zero irrigation systems and robotics. Residents have expressed a satisfaction rating of over 90%, especially in regard to the public art works and geological exhibitions.
