Supporting the Council for Sustainable Development (SDC), the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) is organising a briefing session for our members and stakeholders to better understand the Government’s plan in formulating Hong Kong’s long-term decarbonisation strategy, as well as to share their expertise and insights on the topic.

We are delighted to have invited Prof. Arthur LI, Chairman of SDC to speak at this Briefing Session and also experts from Policy for Sustainability Lab of Centre for Civil Society and Governance, The University of Hong Kong to introduce the background and the public engagement process. A Views Collection Session is specially arranged for participants to share their views and suggestions related to long-term decarbonisation strategies and participants are encouraged to prepare for sharing in advance. 

We all noted the increasing impact of climate change. Cutting carbon emissions and reducing energy use aggressively could help slowing down the irreversible consequences such as increase in global average temperature and sea levels. While the building industry players and the government works on zero carbon building, there is also an urge for Hong Kong to draw up its own comprehensive long-term decarbonisation strategy up to 2050 by next year according to Paris Agreement in 2016.

SDC is initiating this territory-wide public engagement for collecting views from different stakeholders for charting practical pathways and developing feasible yet motivational actions, to facilitate Hong Kong's transition towards a low-carbon society.
