The Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance Award marks its fifth edition this year. All malls, chain stores and individual shops in Hong Kong were invited to submit their green cases or collaborative projects implemented in the past year, competing for recognition across three award categories, including the “Green Mall of the Year”, the “Green Shop of the Year” and the “Collaborative Project of the Year (Circular Economy / Behavioural Change)”. In order to further enhance industry engagement and participation, a new award named “Excellent Green Practices Award”, focusing on waste management, was introduced this year to recognise the efforts of shopping malls and shops in waste reduction and support the Government's waste reduction and recycling initiatives.

Ir Prof. Steve WONG, Chairman of the Environment & Sustainability Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce presented the awards to the winning organisations.

To promote industry exchange and collaboration, Ir Prof. Steve WONG, Chairman of the Environment & Sustainability Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, shared valuable insights on sustainable business strategies in the retail sector at a special session titled "Balancing Green Together". Additionally, representatives from the winning organisations, including Chow Sang Sang, Towngas Cooking Centre, Tai Po Mega Mall, Times Square, Link Real Estate Investment Trust and Citywalk, also engaged in discussions on their sustainable retail operations to share best green practices with other industry practitioners for mutual learning.

During the sharing sessions in the Ceremony, the awardees exchanged their views on sustainable retail operations and shared their best green practices.

Moving forward, to enhance the effectiveness of the Award and address industry feedback, the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance Award will be changed to a biennial event starting from the next edition slated for 2026. In line with this award reform, the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance will organise a series of capacity building workshops and seminars in 2025 to provide Alliance Members with insights into emerging trends in green shopping environment and deepen their understanding of the "Six Green Aspects" (namely Better Use of Energy, Better Use of Water, Municipal Solid Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling of Material, Social Green Behaviour and Green Procurement). These initiatives also help Alliance Members be better-prepared for the forthcoming Award.

The Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance looks forward to further expanding its reach and impact in the future by welcoming more shopping malls and stores into the Alliance to demonstrate the commitment to sustainability. By working together, we can create a greener shopping environment and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
