Hong Kong, 1 June 2023 – Co-organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), Hong Kong Green Building Week (HKGBW) 2023, an annual campaign centres around the theme of “Unite Green Building Powers, Fight for Carbon Neutrality by 2050”. To tie in with this crucial theme, HKGBW assembles four main Green Building Powers, namely Health and Well-being, Resource Efficiency, Environmental Friendliness and Innovative Elements, into a diverse programme of fascinating activities and events that welcomes public participation. To enhance the general public’s awareness and invite everyone to explore the essence of green buildings, HKGBW 2023 proudly presents “Let’s Unite! Green Building KOL Video Competition”, a creative contest that the public is encouraged to understand the connection between green buildings and citizens by exploring the 4 Green Building Powers from the 4 selected green buildings. Together with “Captain Green”, buzzing KOL Chucky (CHAN Ching-nga), participants will explore the wonders of green building ecology in our local community and produce videos that highlight the sustainable features of green buildings and their significance, and win attractive prizes with their creative showcases. HKGBW 2023 will also host a free video production workshop, in which a professional tutor will share enticing filming and editing techniques with participants, to bring out the best in their videos and maximise the chance of winning. In-depth tours in the CIC-Zero Carbon Park led by green building professionals will also be organised for participants to get first-hand knowledge of green building features, embarking on a journey to becoming the rising stars of "Green Building KOL".

“Let's Unite! Green Building KOL Video Competition”:
On-camera with KOL, Assembling Green Building Powers and Win Attractive Prizes

Co-organised by the CIC and the HKGBC, “Let’s Unite! Green Building KOL Video Competition” is set to take place from 1 June to 24 July. With the core message of “Let's Unite”, the participating members of the public will visit one of the four designated green buildings and explore the Green Building Powers (KOL Group contestants can choose one location, while other group contestants are required to collect all four powers). Each participant or group entry will produce their own videos, ultimately enhancing the general public's understanding of the four main Green Building Powers, while showcasing a green future for Hong Kong.

Different from the previous edition, this year's competition consists of two categories: the KOL Group and the Thematic Group, both allowing individual and team entries of up to four people. The newly introduced KOL Group encourages participants to unleash their creativity in filmmaking. With the viral Instagram Reels Remix feature, participants will be on-camera with "Captain Green" Chucky to create fun-filled viral moments with their onscreen chemistry. The Thematic Group will be further divided into the Parent-Child Group and Open Group. All will be required to follow the guidelines from the "Green Building Guidebook", visit designated green buildings and capture the essence of Green Building Powers, putting their creativity and observation skills to the test.

The competition is well supported by the industry and academia. The judging panel comprises experts in the communications, movie, advertising and architectural industries, including renowned KOL Chucky CHAN; Mr Tyson CHAK, acting teacher and film actor; Mr KC TSANG Kam-ching, Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Dr. Donna CHU Shun-chi, School Director and Associate Professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK; Ms Anastasia Tsang Hin-ning, Director of “A Light Never Goes Out” and Mr Penny CHENG, veteran advertising director and founder of The Penny Limited. Winners of the competition will not only be entitled to receive attractive prizes, but will also be invited to the Hong Kong Green Building Week 2023 Kick-off Ceremony to celebrate their award-winning creative works. Awards to be presented in each category include Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, as well as the “The Most Popular Video Award”, which will be determined through public voting on the official website.

For those who just start making videos and wish to take their skills to another level, you are welcome to join the free video production workshops! To be organised with one session each held in the morning and afternoon on 24 June, the workshops will provide useful tips and tricks on filmmaking. A professional tutor will demonstrate useful skills in video shooting and editing at the CIC-Zero Carbon Park, helping participants build a solid foundation in their creative process. Additionally, participants will also have the opportunity of joining the guided tour in the CIC-Zero Carbon Park, learning from green building professionals about its unique architectural features and aesthetics. Assembling Green Building Powers by Visiting Four Must-See Architectural Highlights
The CIC and the HKGBC have been dedicated to promoting the development of green buildings, advocating for the architectural approach in all future constructions. Principles of green buildings include the integration of local landscapes, coexistence with ecological systems, energy conservation and waste reduction, among others, weaving the concept of environmental protection into our daily lives. From residential to commercial buildings, shopping hotspots to cultural landmarks, green buildings are everywhere. While participants would be searching for Green Building Powers in our local community, it would also be a great idea to enjoy these nature-friendly facilities with friends, family or loved ones, and immersed in all the vibrant green spaces our city offers.
