Hong Kong, 22 December 2017 - Co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and BEAM Society Limited (BSL), the BEAM Plus Certification Ceremony 2017 was successfully held on 14 December 2017.  Mr. WONG Kam-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment, Government of the HKSAR, was invited as the officiating guest of the ceremony. Other honourable guests included Mr CHAN Ka-kui, SBS, JP, Chairman of Construction Industry Council, Sr WONG Bay, Chairman of Hong Kong Green Building Council and Mr SO Kai-ming, Chairperson of BEAM Society Limited. The guests presented in total 33 certifications to the project teams whose BEAM Plus projects achieved Final Platinum, Provisional Platinum, Final Gold ratings, and Excellent grades. The organisers also announced that more than 1,000 projects have been registered under BEAM Plus, which marked a milestone for the development of the green building industry in Hong Kong. Another worth noting progress is that the first batch of projects under “BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0” were certified this year.

Mr WONG Kam-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government, commended project teams’ commitment to build green. He also expressed that the Government was proactively implementing all-round policies to achieve the carbon emission target set forth.

Sr WONG Bay, Chairman of the HKGBC, pointed out that "Until now, the number of BEAM Plus registered projects exceeds 1,000. This will bring more green spaces to the community, reduce tons of carbon emissions and build a healthier living environment, when these buildings are completed or refurbished."

“Thanks to the efforts of organisations that have been participating in BEAM Plus, sustainable development initiatives can be put into practice to make Hong Kong a greener city. BSL is continuously perfecting the assessment tools to support the Government policy of carbon reduction," said Mr SO Kai-ming, Chairperson of BSL.

Apart from presenting the certification to the project teams, the HKGBC and BSL also reviewed achievements about BEAM Plus, including the newly launched BEAM Plus mobile application, which allows the practitioners to stay in touch with the latest news onthe scheme. For the qualification training, the BEAM Professional Training was revamped into specialty training and examination, while for another credential, BEAM Affiliate, its entry requirement was adjusted to allow more graduates to join the green building force.

BEAM Plus assessment is the Hong Kong’ leading initiative to offer independent assessments of building sustainability performance relating to the planning, design, construction, operation and management. The projects are assessed by BEAM Society Limited and certified by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. There are four assessment tools, namely New Buildings, Existing Buildings, Interiors and Neighbourhood.
