Sino Land Selected as a Constituent of Dow Jones Sustainability™ Asia/Pacific Index

Sino Land Company Limited has been selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability™ Asia/Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific), recognising its ESG performances among the top 20% of the 600 companies in the Asia-Pacific region basing on a set of stringent long-term economic, environmental and social criteria. This is a testament to Sino Land’s ongoing efforts to formulate and implement ESG strategies and efforts towards a more sustainable future.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) were the first global indices to track the financial performances of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The DJSI Asia Pacific was launched in 2009 to measure the performances of Asia-Pacific sustainability leaders identified by S&P Global through their Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).

Mr Daryl NG, Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the ESG Steering Committee of Sino Group, said, “We are humbled to be recognised among sustainability leaders by the DJSI Asia Pacific. This is a strong encouragement to our efforts to build a better community together. We look forward to continuing to explore solutions and work with our partners to create a more sustainable future together.”

Additionally, Sino Land has been honoured in S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2023 and its inaugural Sustainability Yearbook (China) published in 2023.

HKGSA Presents the Latest Issue of "Green Shop CONNECT" and 2023 Green Shop Alliance Award Updates

As we enter the hot summer months, shopping malls and stores have become popular destinations for people to escape the heat. Yet this increase in foot traffic on hot days can lead to the generation of more emissions and waste.

In the latest issue of the Hong Kong Green Shop Alliance’s (HKGSA) e-newsletter, "Green Shop CONNECT", Alliance Members demonstrate the possibilities for sustainability during the summer season. In terms of waste reduction, Olympian City and Green Price showcase their solutions for recycling and reducing food waste by offering decomposers to tenants and selling short-dated food to the general public. Meanwhile, in terms of energy savings, DFI Retail Group and an international case study of a Bangkok shopping malltheCOMMONS – illustrate how an innovative approach to cooling systems can be used to reduce carbon emissions.

We hope this issue of the e-newsletter will inspire everyone to create a green and cool shopping environment in Hong Kong this summer as well as to achieve new levels of sustainability in their everyday practices. Read it now: LINK

This August, applications also open for the HKGSA Award 2023. The Award aims to encourage the development of new best practices for the retail industry and promotes collaborative efforts between malls and shops to foster greener shopping environments. Stay tuned for updates on the HKGSA's website!

CIC Green Product Certification Scheme

Supported and developed by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), the CIC Green Product Certification Scheme is a voluntary certification program that evaluates and certifies products based on their environmental impact. The certification scheme has been in operation for over four years and is now well known and highly regarded in the industry. As of June 2023, over 800 products have been certified, 75% of which have attained Platinum or Gold ratings.

Recently, both Councils have worked together to further enhance the scheme to accommodate the evolving needs of stakeholders and address emerging trends in green building materials and product development. In particular, great attention has been given to reviewing and updating the assessment criteria to better reflect current market practices. We are confident this will ensure that the scheme remains relevant and effective in promoting sustainable products. In addition, the scheme has been expanded to include new product categories, such as low carbon construction products and materials, echoing both Councils’ commitment to promoting environmental sustainability across a wide range of construction industries.

Looking ahead, the Councils have ambitious plans to further enrich and optimise the certification scheme. This includes developing more comprehensive criteria for evaluating products and expanding the program's scope to cover more aspects of sustainability. The Councils are also exploring new collaborations to enhance the credibility and reach of the scheme to promote sustainable product development more broadly and help create a more sustainable future.
