WorldGBC launched the Asia Pacific Embodied Carbon Prime

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has launched the Asia Pacific Embodied Carbon Primer during the World Green Building Week in September 2020. The Primer outlines the business and climate opportunities of tackling embodied carbon in the built environment.

As an active supporter of WorldGBC’s Advancing Net Zero initiative ― which aims to promote and support the acceleration of net zero carbon buildings to 100% by 2050, the Sustainable Development Committee (SDC) of the Hong Kong Green Building Council is developing a number of local initiatives which will tackle not only operational carbon but also embodied carbon in advancing towards net zero. As embodied carbon will continue to grow in importance as a proportion of total carbon emissions, SDC members worked closely with the WorldGBC to develop this embodied carbon primer, with the intent to raise awareness and drive progress in the Asia-Pacific region.

The primer introduces embodied carbon, sources of embodied carbon, strategies for embodied carbon reduction, assessment methods and tools, as well as identifies opportunities for various industry stakeholders (including government, investors, developers, designers, manufacturers, researchers etc.) to drive demand and actions to reduce the embodied carbon of projects, materials and products.  Case studies demonstrating market leadership are also included to inspire actions from the industry.

Please visit WorldGBC's website to read the full report.

All the industry stakeholders including government, investors, developers, designers, manufacturers, researchers etc. shall work together to achieve the acceleration of net zero carbon buildings to 100% by 2050.
