Adding Green to Workplace
At South Island Place, the Grade-A office building in Wong Chuk Hang, a roof garden is built. The building also achieved Final Platinum rating under BEAM Plus New Buildings. |
Have you ever grumbled at your stuffy and gloomy workplace that lowers your productivity? Let’s think of transforming the office into green!
To improve the office environment, an indoor vertical green wall can be considered, as it can help beautify the office and purify the air. Companies may also demonstrate caring for employees by providing corporate social responsibility facilities at office, like nursery room, recreational facilities, etc. In fact, a pleasant and healthy office environment can safeguard employees’ well-being, as well as enhance their productivity!
There are a number of examples of green offices and commercial buildings in Hong Kong. Hongkong Land Head Office Renovation recently achieved Platinum rating under BEAM Plus Interiors. Another headquarter building - Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Fung Ling Memorial Building, has achieved Excellent Grade in Indoor Environmental Quality aspect of BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 Selective Scheme, subsequent to Site Aspect, Water Use and Management aspects. The indoor air quality is monitored in order to maintain healthy indoor environment.
Apart from the indoor environment, site aspect is also the key to green building. South Island Place, a Grade-A office building, achieved Final Platinum rating under BEAM Plus New Buildings. Greenery spans across 40% of the building roof. It helps to lower the floor temperature, resulting in lower energy consumption in air conditioning. Green roof helps alleviate urban heat island effect as well.
