ICE HKA - Annual Conference 2022

Supported by the Hong Kong Green Building Council, the ICE HKA Annual Conference 2022 would be conducted online on 29 April 2022 (Friday).

The recently published IPCC AR6 report on physicl science basis states unequivocally that human activities have been a primary cause of the warming of our atmosphere, ocean and land, and that the scale of recent changes across the climate system is unprecedented. Faced with the imperative to achieve the worldwide objective of net zero carbon emissions by the middle of this century, concerted mitigation efforts including transition to clean energy, reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission, and reducing CO2 in the atmosphere through restoration of the natural environment and engineering carbon capture – all involving the work of civil engineers – are required. The future climate will be frequented with weather extremes – heatwaves, heavy precipitation, droughts, and tropical cyclones, causing more severe and frequent natural disasters such as flooding, landslides and wildfires worldwide. Critical to these risks from climate change and building resilience to protect the built and natural environment will be the work of civil engineers.

Organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association (ICE HKA), the theme of the Annual Conference 2022 is “Surviving the climate crisis: how prepared is the construction industry?”, will bring together experts and professionals in different sectors related to the construction industry to share their insights into various aspects of the theme.
