This webinar is organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council.
The 2018 Policy Address and Construction 2.0 promote the wide use of modular integrated construction (MiC) for enhanced quality, affordability, productivity, safety and competitiveness of building and construction. Its benefits can be vividly demonstrated in transit houses, and currently in temporary hospitalisation units established in different parts of the world to cope with the surging healthcare demands during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
The webinar will discuss the current technology, key considerations throughout the design process and implementation of MiC, as well as the challenges in multidisciplinary design, prefabrication, transportation, installation and inspection for compliance. To demonstrate capability of modular construction method as well as its feasibility for large scale applications in Hong Kong, project examples such as the MiC Display Centre and the use of MiC methods for quarantine wards and ICU wards will be further elaborated as possible solutions to address some current engineering problems faced by the local industry.
Speaker: Ir Dr Goman Ho, Director of Innovation, Arup
Dr Goman Ho is an Arup Fellow and Director of Innovation. Being the firm’s first global leader for Arup Tall Buildings Skills Network, he is now the regional leader for Structural Skills Network. He has been leading and managing many landmark projects with an accumulated height of more than 8km. Some of his award-winning projects include the Cheung Kong Center in Hong Kong, China World Trade Center, CCTV Headquarters, Beijing Capital Airport Terminal and China Zun in Beijing, as well as Vincom Landmark 81 Tower in Ho Chi Minh City. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Hong Kong University.
He was the Technical Director of the CIC MiC Display Center in Hong Kong and is currently involved in several MiC projects in East Asia. Following the COVID-19 outbreak, he also serves as a member of Arup’s COVID-19 Response Network focusing on modular healthcare.
