Wheelock Properties Has Launched its Business and Sustainability Report 2024

Wheelock Properties has released its Business and Sustainability Report 2024, reaffirming its commitment to core sustainability principles and the three-pillar ESG strategy. The report highlights a holistic approach to sustainability that is deeply ingrained in the Company’s business and operations. Prepared in alignment with the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide and with reference to the GRI Universal Standards, the report has also received endorsement from a broad range of stakeholders.
2024 Wheelock Properties Sustainability Highlights
1) Creating a positive impact on the environment
On the ecosphere - Wheelock achieved a four-year consecutive reduction in overall GHG intensity, while maintaining a high construction waste recycling rate of 73%, exceeding its original KPI of 35%.
What Wheelock builds: 100% attained BEAM Plus Gold or above rating - The Company is committed to green buildings and has consistently obtained at least "Gold" rating under the BEAM Plus certification for all new developments over the past 9 years.
Community engagement - The Company successfully engaged over 1.71 million people through initiatives and events hosted by Club Wheelock and its partners, achieving a 43% increase compared to last year. Key initiatives included SEASONS PLACE Coastal Run and WLAB’s Inclusive Cities Summit.
2) Delivering quality experiences and trusted partnerships
Continued growth in sustainable finance - Wheelock actively embraces green finance and integrates ESG considerations into its financing framework. Sustainability-linked loans now comprise 78% of the Company’s corporate loan portfolio, representing a 59% increase compared to the end of 2023.
Endorsed build well - The Company was honoured with a range of industry awards during 2024, including the prestigious RICS CSR Project of the Year-Winner, recognitions from the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors Awards and HKMA Sustainability Award, and attainment of ISO standards for its managed properties.
3) Developing long term enduring value
Adding value in urban development - Wheelock’s first transitional housing project, Lok Sin Village, officially welcomed its first residents in 2024. Marking a significant milestone, it is Hong Kong’s first project to reuse, recycle, and relocate Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) components. Expected to benefit over 10,000 residents throughout its operational cycle, Lok Sin Village stands as the largest transitional housing development in Tai Po. Through the Transitional Housing and Land Sharing Pilot Scheme, Wheelock is providing a total of 19,351 units to local community.
For the future generation - Wheelock focuses on nurturing the next generation through a diverse range of programmes organised in collaboration with its valued partners, including Project WeCan, WIND, and the Hong Chi Association. As of 2024, Project WeCan has positively impacted the lives of over 98,000 students from 82 schools throughout Hong Kong.
