CITIC Tower’s Food Waste Decomposer Contributes to Waste-to-Energy and Sustainable Development

Environmental protection has become a vital component of corporate stewardship to address climate change and is increasingly attracting global attention. As such, CITIC Pacific Properties is committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities through a range of environmental initiatives. Notably, food waste recycling and processing has emerged as one of the Company’s key focus areas. In recent years, CITIC Tower, owned by CITIC Pacific Properties, has introduced a food waste decomposer with a capacity of converting 100kg of food waste into compost per day. Its introduction into the building significantly contributes to CITIC Pacific Properties’ sustainable development.

The Company’s property management team actively encourages tenants at CITIC Tower to join the recycling efforts, such as processing their in-house coffee grounds and tea leaves. The team also collaborates with peers to broaden its recycling initiative by collecting food waste from the neighbouring commercial buildings and processing it at CITIC Tower utilising the food waste decomposer. This recycling programme is continuously and gradually expanding the coverage for shopping malls, industrial buildings and residential properties owned or managed by CITIC Pacific Properties. This initiative is part of the Company’s commitment to consolidating its food waste recycling network. These efforts not only fulfil its corporate social responsibilities and promote environmental protection, but also inspire public participation in this aspect.

As food waste is converted into organic fertiliser, part of it is supplied for the organic farm on the 30th floor of CITIC Tower to enable its self-sufficiency. The rest is shared with colleagues and tenants who enjoy gardening and green living. By doing so, the Company promotes sustainable development to a wider community. Through such collaborative efforts, it is believed that CITIC Pacific Properties can inject stronger driving forces to the city’s environmental protection endeavours and shape a better future for our next generation.
