Swire Properties Continues to Maintain Leading Positions in Global and Local Sustainability Indices

Swire Properties is on track to realise its Sustainable Development (“SD”) 2030 vision to become the leading SD performer in the real estate industry globally. The Company’s ongoing and pioneering sustainability efforts have once again been recognised at both the international and local level by the world’s leading indices.

Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) – No. 2 Globally

The Company advanced to No.2 globally out of 260+ real estate development and management companies in the DJSI World, also ranked No. 1 globally in the Environmental Dimension score and fifth in the Governance & Economic Dimension score for its exceptional environment, social and corporate governance (ESG) performance.

Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (“GRESB”) – Global Sector Leader

Swire Properties was named Global Sector Leader (7th consecutive year) and maintained its Global Development Sector Leader title (4th year in a row) in the Mixed Use sector. The Company achieved the highest “A” rating in Public Disclosure for the 7th consecutive year. The Company continued to be recognised by GRESB for the exemplary sustainability performance of its buildings in the areas of carbon, energy, water, waste and green building certifications, and many pioneering sustainability programmes with multiple stakeholders.

Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index – Top Company, “AAA” rating

Swire Properties once again topped the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS) for the 6th consecutive year, achieving the highest score among over 500-assessed Hong Kong-listed companies; while also maintaining the highest “AAA” rating. The Company achieved the highest score in the “Social” aspect among all assessed companies, further confirmation of the Company’s exemplary performance in key areas of Human Rights, Labour Practices, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Issues and Community Involvement and Development. Swire Properties was also listed in the Hang Seng ESG 50 Index for the fourth consecutive year since its launch.

The Company’s sustainability work has generated a host of technological advancements and game-changing initiatives that have set new standards for the industry, and beyond. These include: the 15-year partnership with Tsinghua University to spearhead research on energy efficiency solutions for buildings; and tenant-engagement programmes such as the Green Performance Pledge and Green Kitchen Initiative that harness the collective power of tenant-landlord collaborations to drive positive ESG impact. In terms of decarbonisation, Swire Properties has also kicked off an Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) pilot as a strategic planning tool – linking each unit of carbon emissions to a fixed cost. The Company has created a dedicated fund from the ICP mechanism to invest in decarbonisation projects to support its science-based targets. This effectively incentivises low-carbon operations and decision-making through better accountability of the Company’s carbon emissions, which facilitates the transition to a low-carbon economy.
