Sun Hung Kai Properties Releases 2022/23 Sustainability Report on ESG Performance and Climate Risk Assessment Result


Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) recently released the 2022/23 Sustainability Report, which highlights the Group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance and its latest sustainability programmes.
This year, the Group formulated a Decarbonisation Strategy to guide its efforts for low-carbon transition and enhance its climate resilience. The Group is on track to develop a scope 3 emissions inventory that will enable it to better manage emissions throughout the value chain. The Group also undertook a detailed climate risk assessment, with scenario analysis, and continued to strengthen its disclosure, based on the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework.
With its continuous efforts and improvement in ESG, SHKP was listed for the first time in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2023 and S&P Sustainability Yearbook (China).
Highlights of the Group’s sustainability initiatives are as follows:
Environment
- Remained on track to meet its 10-year environmental targets for financial year 2029/30
- Awarded 122 green-building-related certificates1 in Hong Kong as of June 2023. SHKP’s four flagship commercial buildings – ICC, Sun Hung Kai Centre, One IFC and Two IFC – have earned a LEED Platinum certification under v4.1 Operations and Maintenance: Existing Buildings
- Sponsored The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s (PolyU) research into green applications, green materials and green construction processes
- Building one of the Hong Kong’s largest solar energy networks with solar panels at SHKP’s buildings and construction sites

People
- Hired 309 people with physical or mental disabilities, and 567 people from ethnic minorities in Hong Kong to provide fair employment opportunities
- Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PolyU College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), offering more than 200 opportunities for CPCE students at 9 SHKP hotels
- SHKP’s subsidiary, Hong Yip, was the first property management company in Hong Kong to incorporate virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies in training, promoting innovative and diverse learning

Nearly 500 CPCE students participated in the open day to learn about the culture of SHKP hotels, job opportunities and industry developments
Customers
- Offered an industry-leading three-year warranty for buyers of all new residential developments since 2013
- Published a new Cybersecurity Policy to manage cybersecurity risks and define responsibilities
- Among the first developers in Hong Kong to acquire the WiredScore and SmartScore certifications for buildings

The Millennity was SHKP’s first property to earn WiredScore Platinum certification
Supply Chain
- Updated the Sustainable Supply Chain Management Guideline to enhance supply chain risk management
- Developed smart construction solutions using robots, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) by our subsidiary, Sanfield Construction Innovations Limited
- Partnered with PolyU to develop the first-ever blockchain-based platform for construction management, and innovative solutions that aim to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency

- SHKP’s signature sports-for-charity event the SHKP Hong Kong Cyclothon returned for the first time since the pandemic
- Continued to support social innovation and integration by sponsoring and engaging in community projects such as United Court, a multigenerational residential project in Sai Sha and provided the Tam Mei Site in Yuen Long as free living quarters for imported construction workers
- Participated in the Strive and Rise Programme, with 250 colleagues volunteering as mentors
