In terms of reducing carbon footprint, VSL Hong Kong explored low carbon fuel types and made good progress in this area. The company is already using some B5 to replace diesel for some plant and equipment. Additionally, it is investigating switching to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetal Oil) for its cranes, helping to further reduce emissions. Overall, the company expects some significant reductions in emissions through the changes to fuel types.
VSL Hong Kong is joining the FiT scheme in Hong Kong by installing solar panels at its Plant Department. This will help reduce reliance on grid electricity and lower carbon footprint. Over 1560 sqm of panels will be installed, generating more than 330,000 kW per year in estimate.

To promote sustainable practices at its sites, VSL Hong Kong has taken actions including using new technology by battery crawler machine to assist in transportation and an innovative electric cutter for diaphragm wall works. The electrical cutter significantly reduces carbon emission on sites by switching the diesel motor with an electric motor and reduce noise by 50% compared to a diesel-powered cutter.

Besides, VSL Hong Kong provides Climate Fresk workshops to employees. This not only empowers them with the knowledge to take action towards a sustainable future, but also helps to create global connections and teamwork. Climate Fresk is a global initiative with workshops conducted in over 130 countries and available in 45+ languages, making it a powerful tool for building a common understanding and taking collaborative action towards tackling climate change on a global scale.
In addition, VSL Hong Kong has participated in several activities to promote environmental sustainability. It set up a booth called the Pickers’ Link – the Game at an event which is related to recycling bins.
