The Hong Kong Green Building Week (HKGBW) is an annual public campaign co-organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC). With the theme of “Move Forward with Green Building. Next Station: Carbon Neutrality.”, the 2024 campaign aims to inspire the public to delve into the realm of innovative green building technologies and foster a deeper appreciation for local green buildings with the idea of "Green Building Express". By embracing the knowledge of green building, we can unite in our collective efforts towards the next station: carbon neutrality.

Four Green Building Powers
To further enhance the public’s recognition of how green buildings benefit humans and the environment, this year’s Hong Kong Green Building Week focuses on four Green Building Powers, including Health and Well-being, Resource Efficiency, Environmental Friendliness and Innovative Elements, and offers a diverse line-up of public activities.
Green Building Partners, including Yau Lee Holdings Limited (Yau Lee), REC Green Technologies Co. Ltd (REC Green Technologies), The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Ltd. (NAMI), and InnoGreen Environmental Limited (InnoGreen) shared their expertise in green building knowledge and the latest technologies at the Interactive Booths during the event.
Yau Lee and REC Green Technologies introduced to the public how innovative construction technologies can be used to enhance the efficiency in the “Construction” aspect of green building.
Towngas demonstrated how to incorporate “Health and Wellbeing, “Resource Efficiency”, “Environmentally Friendliness” and “Innovative Elements” into the operation of its Headquarters at North Point, in the context of the “Operation and Maintenance” of green building.
On the “Retrofitting” aspect of green building, NAMI (left) shared with the public the advanced coatings for stone and wood, while InnoGreen (right) introduced greenery facades and their functions for energy savings and cooling.
In the "Expert Talks" session, five industry experts, including green building professionals and environmental experts, were invited to provide in-depth knowledge on green building.
On the first day of the Exploration Fair, Ms Melody WONG (left), HKGBC Green Building Young Leader and Senior Consultant in Climate & Sustainability Group of Arup and Mr Ken HO (right), Senior Manager (Sustainability and Environment) of Hip Hing Construction, shared their insights on green building with the audience from the stage.
On the second day of the Exploration Fair, Ar. Dr Tony IP, MH (left), Director of HKGBC / Founder of Tony Ip Green Architects Ltd., Mr MK LEUNG (middle), Director of Sustainable Design of RLP Asia and Principal Behaviourist of Behave, and Mr CHU Wai Kit (right), Representative of Gaau1 Up, inspired the public about the importance of green building and sustainability practices.
The event also featured "Green Workshops", where the public could learn about carbon reduction first-hand.
On 21-22 September, the "Green Building Express" served over 150 participants, taking them from Sai Wan to Causeway Bay, exploring 10 featured green buildings along the way, including (in order of route): Bohemian House, Central Market, Hang Seng Bank Headquarters Building, Landmark, Prince's Building, Bank of China Tower, The Henderson, Pacific Place, Sun Hung Kai Centre, and Hysan Place. These include new residential buildings, preserved and revitalised historic buildings, and retrofitted commercial buildings.
All participants who engaged in the activity had the opportunity to be among the Top 10, with each winner receiving a HK$500 Cash Coupon. The winners have been announced on the Hong Kong Green Building Council's Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to check out the winning photos that beautifully captured this memorable event!
The Green Building Guided Tour offers four different routes, allowing participants to delve into the diverse green building features with the Green Building Tour Ambassadors. In addition to the tours, green workshops are available for participants to engage in green living practices and explore green tips for everyday life, aiming to enhance the public’s awareness of green building.
The third station was the CIC Digital Twin Hub in Kowloon Bay, symbolising “Innovative Elements”. This project has attained BEAM Plus Interiors (BI) V1.0 Gold rating in 2019. Through informational boards and interactive exhibits, participants learnt how digital twin technology is applied in green building development. Furthermore, participants enjoyed a Virtual Green Building Workshop at the Digital Twin Lab, where they experienced constructing their ideal green building in the digital world.
