Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the five-year “Jockey Club Energy Saver in Schools Project” (the “Project”) was officially launched to promote energy saving in over 200 schools and educate the next generation on green building concepts.
Following the success of the previous "Jockey Club BEAM Plus in Schools Project", this new Project will further focus on energy-efficient retrofitting works in the participating schools, with the goal of achieving a 15-20% reduction in electricity consumption. Through the “BEAM Plus Existing Schools” assessment and certification, the schools will be recognised for their contribution to pursuing sustainable campuses.
To support the Project, the HKGBC will roll out an array of brand new education programmes, such as Capacity Building Programmes, customised Green Building Tours and Student Ambassador Programme, to enhance the green building knowledge of teachers and students, as well as to promote the importance of the health and wellbeing of school occupants. These education programmes will be supplemented with various teaching materials such as educational videos, board games, and virtual tours in order to optimise teachers’ training and maximise students’ learning outcomes.
With these diverse learning experiences, it is hoped that we can drive behavioural changes among students, and further extend the energy-saving practices from schools to their homes, and even to our communities and society as a whole. By working together, we can create a sustainable and zero-carbon future, making Hong Kong a more liveable city.
