Registration Requirements for RCx Practitioner/ RCx Professional


The candidate can register as a RCx Practitioner or RCx Professional through one of the following routes:
   

Normal Route


To register as RCx Practitioner or RCx Professional via the normal route, the candidate should fulfil the following requirements:
 
RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
RCx Training and Examination
The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 1) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 1) Examination. The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 2) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 2) Examination. The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Professional and pass the RCx Professional Examination.

RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
Academic Qualification
The candidate should hold a Diploma/ Certificate or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent. The candidate should hold a Degree or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent. The candidate should hold a Diploma/ Certificate or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent.
Information to be submitted:
1. Academic certificate. For equivalent academic qualification, both academic certificate and transcript should be submitted. The transcript should show the completion of engineering course(s) related to building services/ mechanical/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning/ electrical/ energy.
RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
Professional Qualification

The candidate should hold a full membership in one of the following professional institutions:
  • AEE - Association of Energy Engineers
  • ASHRAE - The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
  • BSOMES - Building Services Operation and Maintenance Executives Society
  • CIBSE - The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers
  • EI - Energy Institute
  • HKAEE - Hong Kong Association of Energy Engineers
  • HKIE - Hong Kong Institution of Engineers
  • IMechE - Institution of Mechanical Engineers
  • Engineering Council (CIBSE or IMechE)
  • Engineers Registration Board (Building Services/ Control, Automation & Instrumentation/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Energy/ Environmental/ Mechanical discipline)
Information to be submitted:
1. Membership card/ certificate, which includes the name of the professional institution, membership type, and membership number.

Remarks: Membership types such as "Associate Member", "Affiliate Member", "Graduate Member", "Student Member", etc., will not be considered as full membership.
RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
Work Experience
The candidate should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the operation and maintenance of building services facilities, etc., in contractors, suppliers, services providers, developers, facility management companies, etc.

Preferred job duties:
Building commissioning, operation and maintenance of building services installation.		 The candidate should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in the commissioning/ building energy efficiency in consultancy, energy services providers, facility management companies, developers, E&M contractors, equipment suppliers, etc.

Preferred job duties:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation.		 Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the commissioning/ building energy efficiency in consultancy, energy services providers, facility management companies, developers, E&M contractors, equipment suppliers, etc.

Preferred job duties:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation.

Remarks: Experience related to fire services will not be considered in the application.
RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
Project Reference
Not applicable Not applicable The candidate should provide 2 project references. The project references should be related to building commissioning/ energy services/ RCx/ retrofitting, etc., with job duties related to system control, operation and automation, installation and commissioning, energy management, instrumentation and use of data, measurement and verification, etc.
Information to be submitted:
1. Project verification letter. The letter should be signed by an authorised person, i.e., supervisor, project owner representative, etc.

2. Relevant documents. The relevant documents, i.e., reports, emails, drawings, specifications, etc., should show the project name, name of the candidate and job duties. In situations where relevant documents cannot be provided, an interview will be arranged to assess the relevant experience of the candidate. The HKGBC reserves the right to charge HK$100 as an additional administrative fee for the interview arrangement.

Mature Route


To register as RCx Practitioner or RCx Professional via the mature route, the candidate should fulfil the following requirements:

RCx Training and Examination
The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 1) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 1) Examination. The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 2) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 2) Examination. The candidate should complete the RCx Training for RCx Professional and pass the RCx Professional Examination.

RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
Work Experience
The candidate should have at least 7 years of relevant work experience (including 5 years or above in facility operator position).

Preferred job duties:
Building commissioning, operation and maintenance of building services installation.		 The candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant work experience (including 7 years or above in facility engineer position).

Preferred job duties:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation.		 The candidate should have at least 15 years of relevant work experience in facility engineer/ management position.
