WSP-engineered InnoCell recognised in top structural and design awards
WSP-engineered InnoCell has clinched two accolades – Grand Award at the HKIE Structural Excellence Award 2022, and Gold Award at 2022 China Real Estate & Design Award, in recognition of WSP’s unparalleled structural excellence and design competence at the forefront of the construction industry.
A pioneering multi-storey modular integrated construction (MiC) pilot project using steel modules in Hong Kong, InnoCell is a 17-storey smart-living dormitory with a total GFA of 15,300 m2 and 392 fully furnished residential units for local and overseas incubatees from Hong Kong Science Park.
Serving as the structural engineering and MiC consultant for the project, WSP tailored MiC module design to achieve structural stability and sustainability in InnoCell. WSP’s innovative solution allows the entire structure to effectively resist strong local wind and structural loads. With modularisation of over 70% of typical structure, it also reduced the complexity of site installation, shortened the overall construction programme by 40% and reduced construction wastage on site by 60%.
Three WSP’s experts further revealed in a recent video interview in the HKIE Structural Excellence Award 2022 on how the project team designed InnoCell as a cost-effective building that brings out the best benefits of MiC – including key design considerations and construction process, challenges involved and benefits induced, as well as coordination amongst various architects and MEP consultants – helping to create a smart living and co-creation space for tech talents to spark collaboration and forge a thriving innovation community in Hong Kong.
